Legal Accounting NI (LANI) 

 

LANI a not for profit organisation was founded in 2002 by a group of Legal Bookkeepers working in solicitors' practices in Northern Ireland who believed there was a need to assist Legal Bookkeepers, Practice Managers and Managing Partners maintain and improve on standards for legal bookkeeping in the jursidiction.

LANI is dedicated to the education, support and promotion of excellence for specialist financial and administrative personnel working within the legal community. A Legal Bookkeeper deals with the accounting and finance functions of a solicitor's practice. The term 'Legal Cashier' is the most widely
recognised within the legal community but variations include:
 
  • Legal Accountant
  • Financial Controller
  • Accounts Manager
  • Practice Manager
  • Partnership Secretary (amongst others).

 

The role of the legal cashier has developed over the years and now encompasses a plethora of  

administrative duties including:

 

  • Marketing
  • Personnel management
  • Health and safety etc.
